2010 ASN Canada FIA Canadian Karting Championships move to Québec’s famed Le Circuit Mont Tremblant

Originally scheduled to be contested at the SRA facility in Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan, the 2010 ASN Canada FIA Canadian Karting Championships are moving to an exciting new facility at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant

Mississauga, Ontario - May 26, 2010

An exciting new facility is nearing completion by the Jim Russell Racing School beside the legendary Le Circuit Mont Tremblant that has hosted many international events including Formula One.

The track, designed to CIK-FIA Grade A/B regulations, has a length of 1,292 metres and every metre will surely please drivers as they challenge a variety of 15 ultra fast and slower technical corners.

Why this change of venue for the 2010 Championships?

“The managers of the Jim Russell Driving School contacted ASN last year to apply for the 2010 Championships. At that time, ASN advised that hosting had been granted to SRA Karting in Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan, a proven and established organisation and circuit”, said Paul Cooke, ASN Canada FIA’s Vice-president.

“Recently, the managers of the new Mont Tremblant karting facility contacted ASN with an update on the progress of the track, currently on a fast-track completion schedule. At the same time, they again offered to host the 2010 Championships and argued convincingly that this would be the best opportunity to present their new track to the Canadian and global karting community”, continued Cooke.

“Mont Tremblant is world-renowned for its natural beauty and mountain village ambiance and the offer to showcase Canada’s emerging driving talent at such a venue was very appealing”.

“Because the event was already granted to SRA Karting, making such a change was not possible without SRA International Karting’s consent and ASN’s condition that SRA’s be the organizer of the event. Going into our 12th year of the Championships ASN knows experience is critical and the SRA team is well-seasoned.  Bringing Le Circuit and SRA together would be a natural fit if it could be done”, said Cooke.  “Things came together and away we go!”.

For Michel Boisclair, President of SRA Karting, ASN’s suggestion for a venue change was interesting. “Of course, SRA had already began preparing the event at our track and we thought that the schedule to present the championships in Mont-Tremblant was a bit tight”.

“We visited Le Circuit. The obvious substantial investment in the track gave us confidence in the project and the work schedule is not a factor. The pavement has been completed last week and the infrastructure will follow. SRA has agreed to the venue change and SRA will take charge of the organisation of the Championships along with ASN to give the best event possible to the participants”.  We were ready and happy to host the 2010 ASN Canadian Championships at SRA and the change couldn’t be done without additional value for the competitors - which will be made public later.

ASN has now approved the change of venue for the 2010 championships.

The last words come from Le Circuit, the new host of the event. “We are very excited to host the most prestigious karting event in Canada in our first year”, said Vince Loughren, Le Circuit’s Vice-President Operations. “We had the idea of hosting the ASN Canadian Karting Championships since the beginning of the project and we believe that there is no better way to present our new facility. The track is nestled in one of the most beautiful regions of the province of Québec near an enchanting village.  Competitors can look forward to an exceptional experience, probably beyond their expectations, just make sure that you bring your cameras”.

The new track will host its first facility shake-down race event two weeks before the Nationals on August 7, , when the fourth round of the Coupe de Montréal Championship takes place.

CHAMPIONNATS CANADIENS 2010 SE DÉPLACENT AU FAMEUX CIRCUIT DU MONT-TREMBLANT

Originalement prévu pour être disputés sur le circuit de SRA Karing à St-Roch-de-L’Achigan, les championnats canadiens ASN Canada FIA 2010 déménagent sur un tout nouveau circuit au Mont-Tremblant.

Un tout nouveau circuit de karting est en voie d’être complété par l’école de pilotage Jim Russel sur le site du légendaire circuit du Mont-Tremblant, lequel a accueilli au cours des années de nombreuses courses internationales incluant même la Formule Un.

 Le nouveau circuit de 1292 m a été préparé en conformité avec les règles internationales pour les circuits de karting de grade A/B.  Le circuit comporte 15 virages et combine des portions ultra-rapides avec des portions très techniques qui devrait plaire énormément aux compétiteurs.

Pourquoi le changement de site pour les Championnats Canadiens 2010 ?

« Les responsables du nouveau circuit de karting de Tremblant nous avaient approché l’an dernier pour mentionner leur grand intérêt à présenter l’édition 2010.  À ce moment, nous avions déjà accordé l’événement à SRA Karting à St-Roch-de-L’Achigan, une organisation et un circuit déjà établis » de dire Paul Cooke, Vice-président de ASN Canada-FIA.

« Les responsables de Tremblant nous ont contactés à nouveau il y a quelques temps en nous faisant part de l’état d’avancement des travaux. Ils ont alors réitéré leur demande de présenter les championnats Canadiens de karting 2010 qui pour eux constituent une vitrine exceptionnelle pour l’inauguration officielle de leur nouveau circuit » d’ajouter Paul Cooke. 

« Mont-Tremblant est un village de montage de renommée mondiale et leur offre de présenter la relève Canadienne du sport automobile est très alléchante ». 

« Ayant déjà octroyé l’événement à SRA Karting, un tel changement n’était pas possible sans leur accord et sans la condition posée par ASN Canada que SRA Karting demeure l’organisateur de l’événement. Les championnats canadiens en sont à leur 12è édition et à ASN, nous savons que l’expérience d’organisation est essentielle. À ce niveau, SRA Karting possède une équipe chevronnée. Amener le nouveau circuit et SRA Karting à travailler ensemble amène un ensemble complet. » de dire Cooke. « Finalement, les choses se sont mises en place et nous allons de l’avant avec ce changement ».

Pour Michel Boisclair, président de SRA Karting, l’offre de ASN Canada de changer le lieu de l’événement était intéressante. « Nous avions évidemment déjà commencé à travailler sur l’événement et ça nous apparaissait un peu juste comme temps de préparation pour la nouvelle organisation. »

« Nous avons visité les nouvelles installations. Les investissements faits dans le circuit démontre le sérieux du projet et l’échéancier des travaux n’est pas un facteur.  Le pavage du circuit a déjà été complété et le reste des infrastructures suivra bientôt.  SRA Karting a accepté le changement de piste et nous occuperons tout de même du volet organisationnel de l’événement, avec ASN, pour donner aux participants le meilleur événement possible. Nous étions prêts et heureux de présenter l’événement 2010 sur notre circuit et le changement de lieu ne pouvait se faire sans que les compétiteurs en tire un bénéfice, lequel sera annoncé un peu plus tard ».

Le changement de piste pour les championnats Canadiens ASN Canada FIA 2010 est maintenant approuvé officiellement par ASN Canada FIA. 

Le mot de la fin revient évidemment au nouvel hôte de l’événement Le Circuit, par son vice-président opérations Vince Loughren. « Nous sommes très excités à l’idée de présenter l’événement de karting le plus prestigieux au Canada lors de notre première année.  Nous avions cette idée depuis le début du projet et il n’y a pas de meilleure façon de faire connaître notre circuit qui saura dépasser les attentes des compétiteurs.  De plus, le circuit est situé dans une des plus belles régions du Québec, dans un village enchanteur et sera pour les participants une expérience exceptionnelle. Assurez-vous d’apporter votre caméra ».

La toute première course de karting présentée sur le nouveau circuit de Mont-Tremblant sera la 4è manche de la Coupe de Montréal de karting, le 7 août prochain.
